Phuong, also known as Jade Nguyen, is a certified member of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and is licensed to practice Speech-Language Pathology in Florida. She was born in a small town called Phan Thiet in Vietnam but raised and grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She is fluent in both English and Vietnamese. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh in 2016 and 2018. Phuong has practiced speech-language therapy in many settings such as public schools, a school for special needs children, outpatient, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities. Her clinical rotations and work experiences have allowed her to work with many great clients from young school-age children to geriatric populations with various conditions such as autism spectrum disorders, Down Syndrome, behavioral/social skills, intellectual disability, stroke, Parkinson’s, dementia, and many more. While working with the older population, she obtained a certificate in LSVT Loud, which provides voice training to but is not limited to people with Parkinson’s. She is also certified in providing Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), which can be used to treat patients with stroke. She also specializes in treating dysfunctions such as dysphagia, aphasia (language), oral motor, pragmatic/social, articulation (speech), and cognitive-linguistic deficit. Phuong not only believes in treating the condition but her client and his/her family as a whole through open communication and continuous education. She strives and advocates for patient self-autonomy because only through self-understanding, awareness, and action can a person thrive and live a meaningful and purposeful life with or without disability.
